How ADHD is handled alongside substance use
Virtue is an addiction treatment provider. Substance use disorder is the primary diagnosis we're built to treat, and mental health conditions are addressed concurrently when they co-occur, but only where that's clinically appropriate for our level of care.
ADHD treatment history matters here in particular, since some ADHD medications carry their own misuse risk. Rather than make a general claim about treating ADHD on this page, our admissions team gathers your history, including current or past stimulant medication use, and reviews it with clinical leadership to determine fit before anything moves forward.
If we're the right fit, you'll have a dedicated treatment team. Licensed clinician, medical/psychiatric provider, nursing, and case manager. Coordinating your care. If we're not, we'll tell you directly and help point you toward appropriate resources.
Important to know
Some mental health presentations require a higher level of psychiatric care than a residential addiction program provides. Our admissions team screens for this directly during intake so you're matched with the right level of care from the start, rather than finding out partway through treatment.

Questions people ask about ADHD and addiction

(866) 461-3339- Do you treat ADHD?
- Virtue is an addiction treatment center. Substance use disorder is the primary diagnosis we're built to treat. Whether we're equipped to manage ADHD alongside a substance use disorder depends on your specific presentation, current medications, and history. Rather than guess on a web page, our admissions team reviews this with our clinical leadership on a case-by-case basis before we say yes.
- What happens when I call to ask about this?
- Admissions will ask about your substance use history and your mental health history together, including any ADHD diagnosis and current or past stimulant medication use. That information gets reviewed with clinical leadership to determine whether we can safely and effectively treat you. If we're not the right fit, we'll say so directly and help point you toward appropriate resources.
- Is a call obligation-free?
- Yes. Calling to ask questions doesn't commit you to anything. Our admissions team can also verify your insurance benefits before you decide whether to move forward.
- Is treatment covered by insurance?
- Co-occurring disorder treatment is typically covered under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, which requires most commercial insurance plans to cover mental health and substance use treatment at the same level as medical care. Most commercial and PPO plans cover it, though what yours covers depends on the plan and the level of care. Our admissions team verifies your specific benefits before you commit to anything.
