I most recently spent a 7 day detox from alcohol here and honestly I don’t even know where to begin…. Not only was I treated with the utmost wonderful care, I truly felt as if I belonged there. Sadly this was my 5 th time trying a detox. The other places I have tried drugged me up and kicked me out. With no real sense of direction or support to make me feel as if I could stay sober. (I was detoxing from alcohol) I actually cried leaving the center. The lifelong friendships I gained will remain with me forever. The staff never faltered on calling me by my name and actually remembering who I was unlike most detox centers. The nurses take excellent care of you too while in detox. They help you detox safely and make sure your comfortable while not overmedicating either. I can not even write into words how grateful and thankful I am for Virtue. If you’re considering any place to detox or even do inpatient treatment, this is your place to go. Thank you so much Virtue staff, counselors and kitchen staff (I ate so good there as well)!!! I had the best experience!
This is one of the best places to detox at, a nice view of the ocean, queen size bed, meals are brought to you the first 3 days while you’re resting, easy access to the restroom, a tv in the room for you and your roommate. And if you want to go outside to smoke your cigarettes, you can ( anytime) . The staff is caring and they check in with you after you get discharged to see how you’re doing and if there is anything they can do to help. It’s hard to get to the door, the other part is just doing it and having a different perspective of how you want your life to be. I would recommend this to anyone. Thank you for the opportunity. ❤️
Virtue Recovery created an environment where healing was possible, and made it as pleasant, as can be, when I was at my most vulnerable. The medical team stayed attentive to my symptoms and comfort, and the staff checked in consistently, making sure I never felt alone or overwhelmed. They made me feel safe, treating me with the utmost patience and respect, every step of the way. I’m deeply grateful for the care I received. They continue to check on me, even still today, reminding me that their treatment doesn't end at the door. It means so much to have such ongoing support through this very difficult chapter of my life.

I was supposed to go to White City VA, (I am a combat veteran) but when I got there, I was told I needed to detox and I was sent here. At first, I was absolutely terrified as the VA took me to the hospital in Medford, but from the moment I was picked up by their driver, to the day of my discharge, I was treated in a way I have rarely been treated at any other facility, and that is with the dignity and respect that I’ve always wanted to have as a human, they cared about my diet they cared about my needs. They were there for me when I was scared they help me when I was at my lowest. And gave me another chance at life something you can’t put a price on, but I’ll always be thankful for. The food was also really good and the person in charge of the kitchen is awesome ( am I allowed to say Annie?) . Thank you for taking such good care of me and that goes for everybody that was here. I don’t have a negative thing to say about anything except the reason why I had to come here, but it was a very positive experience and you get to be in Astoria beautiful story where they film the goonies detoxing sucks, but it didn’t suck so bad being here thank you.

How long does detox take?
It depends on the substance, how long you have been using, and your health. Our medical team sets the length of your stay after your evaluation and adjusts it as you go. Admissions can talk through what to expect for your situation.
Can I keep taking methadone or Suboxone?
Yes. Astoria supports methadone continuation, coordinated with CODA, and setup usually takes two to three days. MAT is also available. Tell admissions what you take and your current dose on the first call.
What happens after detox?
Most clients move into residential treatment in the same building, with the same team. A clinical assessment decides the right next step. Oregon offers detox and residential care, and if you need outpatient care afterward, your team helps you find it close to home.
Does my insurance cover detox?

What should I bring?
Pack about 10 days of comfortable clothes in layers for Oregon weather, plus gym shoes. Parking is very limited, so plan ahead if you are driving. Shopping trips for tobacco, nicotine and personal items run weekly.
Can I keep my phone?
You will have time to stay connected to the people who matter. Phones are managed during your stay, because structure around phone use is part of what makes early recovery work.
Will I actually leave the facility?
Yes, once you move into residential care. During detox you stay on site, because withdrawal medication makes leaving unsafe. In residential care, equine therapy is off site every week, and outings go to places like the beach, Fort Stevens, the Astoria Column and the Goonies House, plus the local aquatic center.
Can my family visit?
Yes, in residential care. Family sessions run one to two times a week by Zoom, phone or in person, and visit passes are available after 14 days. During detox, admissions can explain how you will stay in touch.
Can I bring my pet?
Service animals are considered case by case for residential care, and veterans with service animals are reviewed individually before admission. Animals need current documentation, shot records and to meet behavioral requirements. Emotional support animals are not part of the program, so ask admissions about your situation.
Who can be admitted at Astoria?
