Abruptly stopping certain substances can be medically dangerous. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal can cause seizures. Opioid withdrawal, while rarely life-threatening, is intensely uncomfortable and frequently leads to relapse without medical support. Stimulant and poly-substance withdrawal carry their own risks — particularly for people with co-occurring mental health conditions.
Medical detox exists to manage these risks. With the right clinical oversight, withdrawal becomes safer, more tolerable, and the foundation for lasting recovery — not just a bridge you survive.
If you’re unsure whether you or your loved one needs medical detox, call us. Our admissions team can help you understand what level of care makes sense.
Our Houston facility provides medical detox for adults dealing with dependence on:
Including long-term, high-volume use requiring close medical monitoring
Including prescription painkillers, heroin, and illicitly manufactured fentanyl
Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, and similar medications require careful tapering
Cocaine, methamphetamine, Adderall, and other prescription stimulants
Multiple substances are used in combination, such as stimulants and alcohol.
PTSD, anxiety, depression, and dual diagnosis presentations are treated alongside addiction from day one
Your safety is the priority from the moment you arrive. Our facility maintains 24/7 registered nurse coverage on rotating 12-hour shifts, with a Director of Nursing on-site Monday through Friday. Every detox client is assessed by a medical provider within 24 hours of admission and seen daily until detox is complete — with more frequent check-ins if your condition warrants it.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to withdrawal management. Your detox protocol is built around your medical history, substance use history, current presentation, and withdrawal symptoms as they develop. Medication-assisted support is available where appropriate to reduce discomfort and minimize risk.
Detox is not just a medical process; it’s the beginning of clinical engagement. During your stay, you’ll participate in daily programming designed to begin addressing the psychological and behavioral dimensions of addiction, such as drug & alcohol education, group therapy, and education around infectious diseases related to drug use. All meals are provided, and vital signs and medications are monitored on a scheduled basis throughout the day
We work with most major commercial insurance plans. Our admissions team verifies benefits quickly, typically within minutes once your information is received, so insurance questions don’t delay your access to care. Medicaid is not accepted at this location.
Admissions are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including walk-ins. If you arrive without a scheduled intake, we’re prepared for you

Medical detox is often the most physically dangerous part of the recovery journey — and the most important moment to have professional support. Our Houston team is ready when you are.
Detox addresses physical dependence. Recovery requires more. Our case management team meets with every client within 24 hours of admission to begin planning for what comes next — whether that’s residential treatment or another level of care.
Virtue Recovery Center offers a full continuum of treatment at our Houston location and across our Texas and national network, so transition to the next level of care can happen without disruption.

Yes. Virtue Recovery Houston addresses both physical withdrawal and psychological aspects. Patients receive individual counseling, psychoeducation, and dual diagnosis screening. The goal is to stabilize patients medically and motivationally before transitioning to residential treatment.
Length of stay varies depending on the substance, the severity of dependence, and how your body responds to withdrawal. Most detox stays range from a few days to about a week, though extended stays of up to three weeks are possible when medically indicated.
Our case management team begins discharge planning from day one. Most clients transition to a higher level of continued care — residential treatment, PHP, or IOP — either at our Houston facility or elsewhere in the Virtue Recovery Center network. We work to make that transition as seamless as possible.
We are not a methadone maintenance clinic and cannot continue or initiate methadone titration during treatment. If you’re currently on methadone, please discuss this with our admissions team before arrival so we can determine the best path forward.
Yes. Our Houston location is situated away from the main road and separated from neighboring properties. It’s a small, 24-bed facility — not a large institutional campus. Many clients specifically choose this location for the privacy and intimate setting.
Yes. ESAs are welcome with current vaccination records submitted prior to arrival. Registered service animals are also accepted.
