What is Health Insurance?
Health insurance is a form of coverage that pays for medical, surgical, and sometimes mental health care expenses incurred by the insured. It's a contract between the individual and the insurer where the insurer agrees to cover a portion of the insured's health care costs in exchange for a regular premium.
In a broader sense, health insurance can include various types of policies ranging from accident insurance, disability income insurance, medical expense insurance, and accidental death and dismemberment insurance. These policies can mitigate financial risk and provide access to medical services that may otherwise be unaffordable, especially in the event of serious illness or injury.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Yes, health insurance often covers drug and alcohol rehab in Texas. However, the extent of coverage can vary based on the specific health insurance plan, the type of treatment required, and the rehab center’s policies. It’s crucial for individuals seeking treatment to verify their coverage with their insurance provider beforehand.
Insurance can cover various treatment aspects, such as detoxification, inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation, and follow-up counseling. Certain insurance plans might also cover medications used during treatment. Nevertheless, some rehab centers in Texas take insurance, while others may operate independently. For those without insurance, there are still options for drug rehab in Texas with no insurance, often through state-funded programs or sliding scale fees.
There are numerous rehab centers in Texas that accept insurance, including Virtue Recovery Center’s accredited and evidence-based treatment facilities. These centers work with various insurance providers to cover a portion, if not all, of the treatment costs, easing the financial burden associated with seeking help for addiction or mental health issues.
Virtue Recovery Center operates in multiple locations in Texas. They have facilities at:
- Houston, Texas – 9714 S Gessner Rd, Houston, TX 77071, United States
- Killeen, Texas – 5200 S W S Young Dr, Killeen, TX 76542, United States
It’s important to note that the types of insurance accepted can vary by center, so it’s recommended to reach out to potential rehab centers directly or check their websites for information about accepted insurance plans. Centers like Virtue Recovery may also offer assistance in understanding your insurance coverage and the extent to which it can cover treatment costs.
The cost of addiction treatment in Texas with insurance can greatly vary depending on the specifics of an individual’s health insurance plan and the chosen rehab center. It could range from little to no out-of-pocket cost, up to thousands of dollars, depending on factors like insurance deductibles, copayments, and out-of-pocket maximums.
To get a precise figure, it’s crucial to contact your insurance provider to understand the details of your coverage. The rehab center may also have financial counselors available who can help navigate the complexities of insurance coverage, verify benefits, and provide a clearer picture of potential costs. Factors such as the length of the treatment program, the type of treatment (inpatient or outpatient), and any specialized services can also influence the overall cost.
To check your insurance coverage levels for inpatient rehab treatment, you can typically start by reaching out directly to your insurance provider. They can provide details about your plan’s coverage for addiction treatment services. Another convenient option is to use online verification forms provided by rehab centers, like the one available at Virtue Recovery Center.
When filling out these forms, you’ll need to provide some personal information and details about your insurance plan. This may include your full name, policy number, and the name of your insurance provider. The rehab center can then verify your insurance benefits and get back to you with the coverage details specific to their facility. Please remember that your information will be kept confidential during this admission process.
To get your insurance to pay for drug or alcohol rehab in Texas, the first step is ensuring your insurance plan covers these types of treatments. Then, you’ll need to choose a rehab center that accepts your insurance. Additionally, the treatment you seek must meet the criteria set by your insurance provider for medical necessity.
Bear in mind, your insurance company may require prior authorization before treatment begins. This involves a review of your treatment plan by the insurance provider to confirm that it’s medically necessary. It’s always advisable to speak with both your insurance provider and prospective rehab center to understand the process fully, any potential out-of-pocket costs, and to ensure a smooth transition into treatment.
The number of times insurance will pay for substance abuse treatment in Texas largely depends on the specifics of your insurance plan. Some plans may cover multiple treatment episodes, while others might limit coverage to a single treatment period per year or impose a lifetime limit.
Remember, the definition of an ‘episode of treatment’ can vary and might include detoxification, residential inpatient treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient treatment, and regular outpatient treatment. It’s best to reach out to your insurance provider for exact details on coverage limits and any potential restrictions related to substance abuse treatment.
The cost of addiction treatment in Texas without insurance can be quite variable, depending on the type and length of treatment. Outpatient programs may cost several hundred to thousands of dollars per month, while inpatient or residential treatment can run into the tens of thousands for a 30-day program.
Despite the initial high costs, it’s important to consider the value of treatment and the potential costs of not addressing an addiction. There are also options available for individuals without insurance. Many facilities offer sliding scale fees based on income, payment plans, or even scholarships. Some state-funded programs might provide treatment at low or no cost for eligible residents. Therefore, lack of insurance doesn’t necessarily mean rehab is out of reach.
Paying for drug rehab in Texas without insurance may seem challenging, but there are several options available. These can include self-pay using savings or credit, personal loans, help from family or friends, or exploring financing options offered by the treatment center itself.
Moreover, some non-profit organizations and state-funded programs may offer rehab services at low or no cost to eligible individuals. Also, many treatment centers provide a sliding scale fee structure based on income or payment plans to make treatment more accessible. Therefore, despite the absence of insurance, there are still pathways to obtaining much-needed treatment for addiction.
Paying for alcohol rehab in Texas without insurance is possible through various means. These options can include personal savings, loans, or financial assistance from family and friends. Some rehab centers also offer financing plans or sliding scale fees based on income to make treatment more affordable.
In addition, there are publicly funded programs and non-profit organizations that provide alcohol rehab services at a reduced cost or even free to those who qualify. Therefore, even without insurance, there are ways to access the necessary treatment for alcohol addiction, making recovery an attainable goal.

They offer a structured program aimed at recovery and the development of healthier coping mechanisms.
Rehab centers may specialize in specific areas, such as drug or alcohol addiction, and can offer both inpatient and outpatient programs. I can honestly say that this place helped me with my SUD and changed my way of thinking. The staff are all so open and friendly and someone is always there to lend an ear or a helping hand. I’ve been to a few rehabs and they have been nothing compared to Virtue in how they were run, the therapy and therapists, and the fact that the staff all love their jobs and truly do care for you. If you need help, or someone you love needs help, then don’t waste time or money trying anywhere else.

I cannot say enough positive things about this place. I came in as a first-timer to a residential facility and brought along with me a multitude of mental health struggles and addictions that had had a handle on my life for a long time.
• The staff is beyond amazing and genuinely invested in the wellbeing of the clients.
• My therapist was by far the best I have ever seen and so easy to talk to; I left with a better understanding of myself than I’ve had in my entire life.
• My case manager was insanely kind and went above and beyond for me.

Customer Review from Killeen
I hit a rough patch heading into the holidays and relapsed, so I went back to Virtue for help. I had gone to the facility in Vegas a while back, but for insurance reasons I had to go to Killeen. Yes! Virtue is that good of a facility it’s worth traveling to, Killeen provided transportation to and from Austin airport. Really the only thing different between the two facilities was the location. Killeen is definitely a 5-star treatment center, very clean with beautiful room and comfortable beds. The staff was amazing from housekeeping to the director! Their program is great with a nice mix of classes and free time, with plenty of activities to do. The food is really good too, provided by in house executive chefs! Just another shoutout to the staff, very caring, genuine and loving what they do! I had forgotten a couple of things when I had packed, and a staff member went personally to the store and picked up what I needed. You cannot go wrong by picking Virtue for your treatment! oh… also ask about “Tyrone Bingo” it’s a wonderful night of entertainment!! Big hearted thank you to all the staff, you’re all a blessing!! followed with the “Serenity Prayer.”
